Melanie Stimmell

Melanie Stimmell has been drawing and painting most of her life. An illustration graduate of Art Center College of Design, she's had a strong connection to the traditional styles of French and Italiand Master painters. In 1999 she began working on the 'South Park' feature film and quickly ended up on the South Park TV series. After 8 years Melanie realized her passion was painting and left the entertainment industry to paint full time.

Now a professional street painter and fine artist, Melanie has won the title of Maestro in Italy and Germany for her classical images on the asphalt. Her fine art reflects her love of street painting and traditional inspirations with her playful pastel portraits and dramatic still life paintings. Her new series flaunts a playful interpretation of her own personal dance with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Rather than interpreting her OCD as a curse she has chosen to explore the idea of cleaning as a fetish. Painting figures that represent the ‘Eternal Woman’ as a domestic goddess or the vintage idea of a good housewife lead to her exploration of a woman’s role in today’s society with an overt suggestion of sexual desire. Drawing inspiration from the master works of Italian and French Classicists and American pin-up artists, her work is deeply influenced by her religious background and the natural relationship that she finds between the idea of beauty and femininity in art from the Madonna and Saints to glamorous Hollywood starlets. The juxtaposition of these very different ideas with fetish whimsy is what these new paintings represent.
