Mervyn Seldon

Mervyn Seldon started painting in 1985 and earned her M.F.A. in painting and drawing from California State University, Fullerton, in 1997. (She was a French literature-art history major at the University of Chicago and later received a Master’s Degree in political science and the certificate of the East Asian Institute from Columbia University.) She earned her living as a book editor in Asian studies and as a fund-raiser for educational and arts organizations.

Mervyn has concentrated on still lifes and landscapes, often merging the two genres. Her current paintings explore real and imagined scenes, and may use natural materials—eggshells, sand, and rice—to reflect light and lend depth and texture. Several of these multimedia pieces have been inspired by mosaic designs. Mervyn has exhibited at more than twenty galleries in Southern California in both solo and group shows.
